Bangalore is the hotbed for biotechnology companies in India, with a significant fraction of the country’s companies located in the city. Each year the demand for IBAB’s Postgraduate Diploma in Bioinformatics programme increases, and we are currently underway with batch 11.
Although (prematurealy) listed as alumni, Batch 11 has completed its 1-year coursework and is currently doing its 6-month internship. The list of students and their profiles are below.
In order to allow the faculty to focus on the new MSc programme, we are winding down the Diploma programme. Batch 11 will be the last batch until we hire more faculty and then restart it.
Ambily Treesa Varghese – completed her B.Tech in Information Technology from Adi Shankara Institute of Engineering & Technology, Kerala. She worked as a programmer in Accenture before joining IBAB.
Ankur Bansal – completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Biotechnology from SIT, Tumkur under VTU in 2010. He carried out his last semester project on the ‘Mutational analysis of S. cerevisiae for developing a high ethanol tolerant strain’. He joined IBAB to get exposure to Bioinformatics and IT.
Ashwini Kisan Chavare – did her MSc in Microbiology from YCCSK Shivaji University Kolhapur where she was the university topper. During her MSc, she worked on a one year project entitled ‘In vitro Antioxidant activity of some pathogenic micro-organisms’. She joined IBAB to obtain the skills required to be an entrepreneur and work on core bioinformatics research areas.

Neetu has done her B.Tech. in Bioinformatics from SRM University Kattankulathur, Chennai in 2010. Bioinformatics is a huge field and of the various sub-areas, she is interested in drug designing. In this connection, she has done a project on ‘In-silico drug designing for flu’. IBAB is a nice place to learn programming and other basics. With this foundation she really hopes that she can easily achieve her goals.
