Each Core Faculty of the institute has a PhD and post-doctoral experience. His or her research is profiled elsewhere on this site. The Core Faculty are the backbone of the MSc programme at IBAB. In addition, eminent Adjunct Faculty (from academia or industry), some from abroad, have greatly enriched the programme. Some Adjunct Faculty have taught at IBAB for many years. Finally, there have been a large number of Guest Speakers whom the students have had the pleasure of listening to. The different categories of faculty are profiled or listed in this section.
Dr. H S Subramanya, Director IBAB & Biocon Chair.
With a masters in physics from the University of Mysore Dr. Subramanya received his PhD in structural biology from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He went on to do postdoctoral work at the University of Oxford, UK. After returning to India, he was a faculty member and Assistant Director of the Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow. He then returned to Bangalore, and was associated with Aurigene Discovery Technologies Ltd. From 2002–2014, the latest position being that of Senior Vice President, Lead generation and Structural Biology. He is currently Visiting Professor at the Institute of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology. Dr. Subramanya has 36 publications and 9 patents to his credit.
Here research is focused on understanding epigenetic signalling in disease and during apoptosis. Her laboratory uses next generation sequencing approaches, live cell imaging and high throughput microscopy to dissect the role of chromatin modifications during the onset of diseases and their progression. The group also employs a range of bioinformatics approaches, molecular simulations, image informatics, and pathway mapping strategies to understand chromatin dynamics and signalling. Her group actively collaborates with tumor pathology Departments in Germany and with simulation groups in the US to address the different dimensions controlling chromatin dynamics.
Dr. S S Shivakumara obtained his BVSc degree from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, MSc degree from the University of London, and PhD degree from Virginia Tech. He did post-doctoral work at the University of Kansas and the Los Alamos National Laboratory. More…
