Each year the students heading to IBAB display a variety of excellent qualifications. Many of them have work experience, ranging from teaching to research, including in the corporate sector. Yet they are driven by a passion to discover the hidden benefits of bioinformatics and biotechnology and use these to held mankind, which compels them to seek admission to IBAB.
Aakanksha Mishra is a Zoology honors graduate from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. It was during her short-term industrial training in Ranbaxy that she developed a keen interest in bioinformatics. Her professional interests include pharmacogenomics, sequence analysis and in silico drug designing. She also believes that entrepreneurial skills acquired at IBAB will open new vistas for her.
Abheenava Kumar holds a masters’ degree in biochemistry from H. N. B. Garhwal University. His curiosity in the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of human diseases led him to join the bioinformatics course at IBAB. His areas of interest are cancer biology, functional genomics and he would like to apply his knowledge of computational structural biology to develop therapeutics for cancer.
Abhishek Joshi is a graduate in Veterinary and Animal Sciences from Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner. His keen interest in statistical analysis and computers brought him to IBAB. In his future endeavors he intends to join the field of clinical research.
Anil Kumar Kesarwani holds a masters degree in Life Sciences from Allahabad University, Allahabad. He has completed his project in Bioinformatics, entitled ‘Comparative Modeling of Human Cathepsin K’ using the Modeller package at IIDS, Nehru Science Centre. At IBAB, he hopes to improve his software skills, required in the field of Bioinformatics. He would like to pursue a PhD in Bioinformatics.
Ansu Kumar is a postgraduate in biotechnology from Guru Jambheshwar University (Hissar), Haryana. He did his MSc project training in ‘Photosynthetic responses of rice seedlings to salt stress’ at JNU (Delhi). His reason for joining this course is to find applications of bioinformatics and computational biology in drug designing, molecular modeling and genetic analysis.
Anvita S Gupta is a postgraduate in biotechnology from Bangalore University. She has also undergone training in animal cell culture at SR Biotech Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore. Her immense desire to create a computational tool for assistance in a research field related to molecular biology brought her to IBAB. She is keenly interested in functional and computational genomics.
Ashutosh Tripathy is a postgraduate in Biotechnology from Utkal University, Orissa. He has also worked on a 6-month project at the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB), Kolkata on drug delivery system against reactive oxygen species. His areas of interest are proteomics, sequence analysis, drug designing and drug delivery.
Chitresh Sharma is a Gold medalist with a graduate degree in horticulture from UHF, Solan. He has undergone nine months certified training in computers and has participated in several workshops on bioinformatics conducted by DBT. He is interested in designing computational tools and mathematical models to solve complex problems in biology, particularly, for in-silico drug designing, proteomics and genomics.
Debasis Panda is an Engineer in Food Technology from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET), Punjab. The course at IBAB has given him computational insight into biological problems. He is also immensely interested in neutraceutical food, genetically modified food, gene prediction and the mathematical aspects of data mining.
Gayatri Thiyam is a graduate in biotechnology from Bangalore University. She has also undergone short-term (6 weeks) practical training in the field of microbiology at the Federal Dairy Research Institute, Kiel, Germany. She hopes to acquire and develop her knowledge and skills at IBAB which would be of immense help in her future endeavors.
Lizzi Sharon T holds a masters’ degree in Industrial Biotechnology from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. She has done her project on ‘Tissue reactions to biopolymers’ from Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) Hyderabad. While at IBAB she is also pursuing her MPhil from the Centre for Distance Education, Bharathidasan University.
Murumalla Ravi Kumar holds an M.Sc. in Applied and Industrial Microbiology from Utkal University, Orissa, where he developed a keen interest in biostastistics and clinical trials. His inquisitiveness as to how bioinformatics could be applied to the field of medical microbiology led him to join IBAB. He is also proficient in microbial techniques and fermentation technology.
Nilesh Kumar holds a Masters of Business Administration from Gujarat University and a graduate degree in Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry from Gujarat Agricultural University. His areas of interest are investment banking, IPR management and consulting in health services of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
Ojaswani Pandey is a post graduate in biotechnology from Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan. She has always been fascinated by the idea of using computational skills in the speedy development of biological sciences and this led her to join IBAB. Her interests include drug designing, protein structure and gene prediction and microarray analysis.
Pratima Choudhary is a post-graduate in microbiology from Seedling Academy of Design, Technology and Management, affiliated to Rajasthan University. Besides that she also has a computer diploma from NIIT. A combination of both fields led her to take up bioinformatics as her career where she can apply both processes and get to learn Dmdrug designing and molecular modelling in depth.
Rafi Shaik has done his Masters degree from Andhra University with specialization in Human Genetics. He wishes to pursue his career in research on gene expression. He thinks that in the post-genomic era, annotating the huge amounts of data can be done only with the help of bioinformatics. He believes in ‘Living life to the fullest’.
Raja Rathnam S holds a BTech in Biotechnology from the School of Engineering and Technology, Bharathidasan University, Trichy. Later he worked as Lecturer at the Vivekanandhaa Engineering College for Women at Tiruchengode, Tamil Nadu for 18 months. His interests include structural biology, molecular modeling and systems biology.
Rajeev Kumar holds a Postgraduate degree in Zoology from BN Mandal University, Bihar. He is NET qualified and secured a high score in GATE. He is interested in exploring the open collaborative nature of bioinformatics and would like to pursue his career in areas of molecular and drug designing.
Saurabh Kashyap holds a masters degree in Biotechnology from Guru Jambheshwar University (Hissar). He is GATE qualified and is interested in proteomics and drug designing. He wishes to pursue a career in this field. He joined the bioinformatics course at IBAB to merge his twin interests of biology and the use of IT in biology.
Saumya Rai is a graduate in botany, zoology and chemistry from Purvanchal University, U.P. She joined IBAB to get acquainted with the latest developments in the field of bioinformatics and to explore new technologies. The course at IBAB has enhanced her analytical and problem solving skills.
Sayantani Ray holds a masters degree in biotechnology from Bangalore University. As a part of her curriculum she has done projects in plant tissue culture, study of quality evaluation of milk products and detection of PPR virus using ELISA. Her academic background includes immunological research, interaction in proteins and drug designing.
Shiva Goyal has done her B.E from R.V College of Engineering, Bangalore with specialization in Information Science and Engineering. The main aspect that motivated her to join IBAB is that she can utilize both software skills and her knowledge of biology. She likes reading books and playing table tennis.
Shruthi Madappa is an engineer with specialization in Instrumentation Electronics from SIT, Tumkur, Karnataka. She is interested in further research in Computational Genetics. She has been amazed by the happenings in the life science industry and she feels that IBAB will be a stepping stone for her career.
Shruti has completed her B.Tech. Biotechnology (Genetic Engineering) from Allahabad Agricultural Institute – Deemed University, Allahabad. As a part of her engineering degree she completed a project in ‘Molecular Characterization of Interferon-tau gene of Black Bengal Goat at Genome Analysis laboratory’ at I.V.R.I. Her interests include clinical trials and sequence analysis.
Shruti Marwaha is a graduate in Zoology (Hons) from the University of Delhi. Oncology, genomics and drug designing are her areas of interest. At IBAB, she likes the idea of working with people from various streams. In her leisure, she enjoys listening to music, sketching and painting.
Somlin Panda is a postgraduate in Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry from Sambalpur University, Orissa. She has received the ‘N. Padma Lalita Memorial’ gold medal in organic chemistry. She has done research work for one year in the field of Theoretical Chemistry during her M. Phil. She also holds a postgraduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA) from AISECT, Orissa.
Sridevi Pallam is an engineer in Medical Electronics from M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Visvesvaraya Technological University, Bangalore. She wanted to pursue her higher education in bioinformatics as she was always interested in computational biology and sequence analysis of biological molecules using biostatistics and software skills.
Subbalaskshmi P S S holds a graduate degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Osmania University, Hyderabad. She feels that bioinformatics has opened a new gateway for her to understand molecular and atomic functioning, so that in future she can apply this knowledge for novel drug designing.
Sujay Peter Luis is postgraduate in biotechnology from St. Aloysius College, Mangalore University. He has undergone training in ‘Microbial transformation techniques and plasmid isolation’ at NABTD, BARC, Mumbai and collaborated with Dr. W. Küppers Biotech Unit, Laboratory of Applied Biology, St. Aloysius College, Mangalore.
Vaishali Singh is a graduate in pharmacy from Rohilkhand University (U.P.). Her dual interest in computers and molecular biology brought her to IBAB which she feels will be a milestone in pursuing her career in the field of Research and Development. Her primary focus will involve the utilization of knowledge acquired during the course in the areas of automation, drug designing and computational theory.
Vengalrao Dugyala is a postgraduate in biotechnology from Osmania University, Hyderabad. He believes that bioinformatics would accelerate the molecular understanding of the cell and aid in target oriented drug design which is also economically favourable to the biopharmaceutical sector. He is interested in the areas of genome annotation and genetic engineering.
Vidya T. Chavan holds a post graduate degree in Applied Genetics from Karnataka University, Dharwad. She is interested in immunology, genetic engineering, molecular biology, gene prediction and artificial intelligence. She hopes to work in R&D labs of health care companies to serve mankind after graduating from IBAB. In her leisure time she enjoys listening to Jagjit Singh and bird watching.
Yeole Deepak Balbhim is a medical graduate from GMC, Aurangabad, MUHS Nashik University, Maharashtra. At IBAB, he would like to utilize his knowledge and ideas for drug designing, in clinical trials and software designing and analysis for improving medical care. He enjoys software programming, mathematics and bioinformatics.
Zahara M A is an engineer who graduated in the field of Information Technology from Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology, Kakkanad, Kochi, Kerala. She has done her project on Intelligent Security Solutions from Rajagiri Valley, Kerala. Her interests in computational molecular modeling, sequence analysis and gene prediction have brought her to IBAB.
Zeba Sultana is a graduate in Life Sciences from MDS University, Ajmer. She believes that bioinformatics is an integral part of contemporary research in biology. She is interested in the field of Proteomics, especially the mechanism of protein folding and its 3D structure analysis. She thinks that the computational skills acquired at IBAB will make her competent in the field of her interest.
