Bangalore is the hotbed for biotechnology companies in India, with a significant fraction of the country’s companies located in the city. Each year the demand for IBAB’s Postgraduate Diploma in Bioinformatics programme increases, and we are currently underway with batch 10 and 11.
Batch 10, is a highly enthusiastic set of 30 students, are doing their 6-month internship in a host of companies in Bangalore, while Batch 11 is doing its 1-year coursework. The list of students, their profiles and place of internship (for batch 10) are listed below.
However, in order to allow the faculty to focus on the new MSc programme, we are winding down the Diploma programme. Batch 11 will be the last batch until we hire more faculty and then restart it.
Aditya Shah did his BE in biotechnology from University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Punjab University, Chandigarh. He is interested in the application of computer science to biology, bioinformatics being one such area. He believes that IBAB is one of the few places in India committed solely to academics and research in bioinformatics.
Anish Kumar M completed his MSc in Biochemistry from the Administrative Management College, Bangalore. His final year project was on ‘The biochemical basis for lactose intolerance’ Having studied bioinformatics during his masters’ course, he was interested in knowing more about the subject. He is interested in playing chess and football.
Anusha S has completed her B-Tech biotechnology from Kumaraguru College of technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. She has done her mini project on “Cellulase enzyme isolation and characterization” and main project on “Xylanse enzyme isolation and characterization”. Her area of interest is Pharmaceutical technology, cancer biology, cell biology.
Anjana Manikanth has completed B.Tech in Bioinformatics from Vellore Institute of Technology. Her Final year project was based on “computational neural model of cat’s brain when involved in feeding activity”. She has joined IBAB to strengthen her knowledge and application skills in the field of molecular modeling and drug discovery.
Deepthi B. M. has completed B.E in Biotechnology under VTU from Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology. Her final year project was on “Molecular Characterization of Novel Bacillus thuringiensis and its Toxicity Studies”.
Gouri Madan Deshpande has completed Engineering in Biotechnology from B.V.B. college of Engineering & Technology, Hubli in June 2010. The belief that, “Biology and Computer Science – Life and Computation – are greatly related” compelled her to select a field at their interface.
Greeshma G. T. has done B.E in Biotechnology from P.A. College of Engineering, Mangalore under Visweswariah Technological University, Belgaum. Her interests include bioinformatics and food biotechnology.
Jamuna R. Yadhav completed her Masters in Applied Genetics from M. S. Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Bangalore University. She has subsequently had about 2 years of research experience at the Center for Human Genetics (CHG),Bangalore. She has attended and volunteered for various international conferences and meetings held by CHG. Passionate to explore all areas in the field of science, she has experience in molecular biology techniques and tissue culture. She can take up many challenging tasks and lead projects.
M. Aamir Waseem Khan completed B.Tech in Biotechnology from ICFAI University Dehradun. Worked on a 6 months project titled “Isolation, Characterization and Quantification of Chemical Constituents of Aloe Species.” from Biotech Park (Dept of Biotechnology, Govt of India) Lucknow. He is interested in research related to Microbial Fermentation Technology and Analytical Techniques.
Madhura Adavkar has a Bachelors of Engineering in Biotechnology. She aim to work in the field of computational biology or clinical and pharmaceutical research and hope that the knowledge and skills acquired in IBAB will definitely help her to reach her goal and have a nice professional carrier in future.
Mandar Rajaram Bobade completed his Masters in biochemistry from Fergusson College (Pune University), Pune and B.Sc.in chemistry from Shivaji University. He joined IBAB to enhance his capabilities in the informatics’ field which is indispensable today, and which can be implemented in biology as well as in chemistry.
Meeta Sunil holds a Master’s degree in Botany from University of Delhi. She has done a review work on “Bio-diesel production from algae” as dissertation towards the partial fulfillment of her degree program. She has a special interest in the areas of stem cell research, molecular modelling, drug designing and associated intellectual property rights.
Mohit Verma holds a Master’s degree in Biotechnology from H.N.B.Garwal University Dehradun Uttarkhand. He did his Bachelor in zoology, botany, chemistry from Aligarh. Prior joining IBAB he has 6 month research work experience working at Auroprobe Laboratories (Molecular diagnostic lab) on Mycobacterium Tuberculosis and Swine Flu.
Nancy Lydia C has done a Bachelors’ in Engineering (Information Technology) from Karunya University, Coimbatore. She was always interested in genetics and was also curious to know how IT is used for biological purpose. This thinking made her join the Bioinformatics’ course at IBAB. She likes to develop software for biological problem.
Pallavi Gupta completed her B.Tech. Biotechnology from Lovely Professional University, Punjab. She then did a one-month summer internship from CPRI (Central Potato Research Institute), ICAR, Shimla. Her semester internship was at the Central Scientific Instrumentation Organisation, CSIR, in Bimolecular Electronics and Nanotechnology Department on the project ‘Immobilization of Biotinylated Antibodies on Conducting Polymer coated Silicon Wafer for Immunosensing’ under the guidance of Dr. L. M. Bhardwaj. After this she felt that Biotechnology is incomplete without Bioinformatics. Both out of interest, and to get a more complete education, she joined the course at IBAB.
Pritish Kumar Dash has a Bachelor in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Roland Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Berhampur affiliated to Biju Pattnaik University of Technology, Orissa. He joined IBAB to enhance his clinical trials management skills and also to discover the horizons in stastical and bioinformatics tools.
Priyanka D. Pujari has a Bachelor degree in Biotechnology from Kishinchand Chellaram College, Mumbai. She also has done training in Plant Tissue Culture, r-DNA Technology, Immunology at Shreedhar Bhatt’s Laboratory in Bangalore. Her core interest in genetics and programming motivated to join IBA.
Rahul R. Pathare is B.Tech in Biotechnology from Sinhgad College of engineering, Pune. His project work was Process Development of Biomolecules from Serum. He is interested in programing and molecular biology.
Ravi Prakash Gupta is B.Tech in Biomedical Engineering from Bundelkhand University. He has always been interested in Computer applications in Biology. He believes his selection at IBAB an opportunity to develop certain software’s which can play a vital role in developing machines which can make Diagnosis of various diseases a home’s job for common mass.
Roli Srivastava has a Master’s degree in Plant Science from the University of Lucknow. She took short term courses in Application of Biotechnology at NBRI and CIMAP as part of the curriculum, during which she was exposed to the applications of information science to biology. This eventually led to her interest in Bioinformatics. She was a Lecturer in Botany before joining IBAB.
Satya Swati K. has completed B.Tech in Biotechnology from ICFAI University in 2010. She is interested in molecular biology and computational biology. The use of computers in managing and analyzing the complex biological data fascinated her to learn about bio informatics. She has joined IBAB to gain knowledge use these skills in her future professional life.
Saurabh Gupta has completed his Bachelors in Technology Biotechnology from Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab. He has keen interests in mathematics, programming and computational analysis. He joined IBAB to nurture his skills in the field of Bioinformatics.
Shweta S. Kulkarni has done Bachelor in Life Sciences and Biochemistry from Sophia College, Mumbai and Masters in Life Sciences from Bangalore University, Bangalore. She has joined IBAB because of her interest in protein behavior.
Soumya Nayak completed her BTech from Silicon Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar in Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. She also worked as a software engineer in Atos Origin on various projects. She is interested in genomics and skilled in programming in various languages. Her focus is on applying her computer skills to biology. She is interested to pursue a career in research in bioinformatics.
Sujata Dhar has done B.Tech in Biotechnology from ICFAI University, Dehradun. She has done projects titled “The Production of vinegar from grapes” in 4th semester and “Comparison of efficiency of various C-sources in fermentation of alcohol using Baker’s yeast” in 6th semester. She has interest in Biochemistry, Immunology and would like to do research in this field.
Suran R. Nambisan did his Bachelor’s in Biotechnology from Loyola Academy Degree and PG College, Hyderabad and completed his Master’s in Biotechnology from Gulbarga University. He is always fond of Mathematics and Bioinformatics, provided an opportunity to analyze biological data with the beauty of Mathematics, which eventually led in his decision to join IBAB.
Vaibhav Shrikant Kulkarni has completed Bachelors in Microbiology from D.B.F. Dayanand College of Arts & Science, Solapur, Maharashtra and M.C.A. from School of Computational Sciences, Solapur University, Solapur. He is passionate for computational biology and recent techniques in Bioinformatics. He is interested in Database Development and Programming.
Venkata Shiva Prasad completed an M.Sc in Biochemistry from Osmania University, Hyderabad. He has 2 years of research experience in various projects like ‘Reduction of toxic endosperm proteins, ricin and RCA in castor (Ricinus communis L.) Using amiRNA technology.’ and ‘Development of drought resistance pulses through Biotechnological approaches’. His final year project was ‘Isolation, cloning and expression of maltose binding protein in E.Coli’. He is interested in computer programming and designing of new tools which are useful in research.
Vidya H. K. has a Masters degree in Biotechnology from M.S. Ramaiah College of Arts, Science And Commerce, Bangalore. Her areas of interest are Drug designing, Pharmaco kinetics and would like to develop a career in these fields.
