Gene summary | | Members of the immunoglobulin superfamily are found in hundreds of proteins of different functions. Immunoglobulin-like domains may be involved in protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions. This superfamily member is the human ortholog of a testis-specific cell adhesion molecule previously characterized in mouse and rat. The putative membrane protein contains immunoglobulin domains and may play an essential role in sperm formation. The gene is located downstream from the growth hormone locus on chromosome 17. The locus evolved by a series of duplications and portions of this gene have been duplicated during these events and can be observed as orphaned exons between the growth hormone genes.
