Sample_treatment_protocol_ch1	After administration of pentobarbital (Nembutal, Abbott Laboratories, Chicago, IL, USA) for euthanizing the animals, saline perfusion was performed to remove organ blood, and the livers were immediately removed, weighed, and sliced; one portion was fixed in a 15% neutral formalin buffer solution, pH 7.4, (Wako Pure Chemicals, Tokyo, Japan) and embedded in paraffin for histological analysis, and the rest were snap frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored at -80 °C for subsequent analysis. All experiments were carried out in accordance with the Animal Experimentation Guidelines of Chiba University.
Sample_growth_protocol_ch1	FLS and DS mice, aged 12 weeks, were obtained from Aburabi Laboratories, Shionogi Research Laboratories (Shionogi and Co., Ltd, Shiga, Japan). The mice, kept in separate cages to prevent fighting, were housed in an air-conditioned room at 23±3 C and 50±20% relative humidity, with a 12 h light/12 h dark cycle (6:00-18:00 hours). All mice were given a standard pellet diet (CE-2; Clea Japan Inc, Tokyo, Japan), and free access to water.

Sample_extract_protocol_ch1	Total RNA was extracted from the livers of 3 FLS and 3 DS mice at 19 weeks of age using RNeasy mini kits (QIAGEN Inc., Valencia, CA, USA).

Sample_label_protocol_ch1	Biotinylated cRNA were prepared according to the standard Affymetrix protocol, one-cycle, from 5ug total RNA (Expression Analysis Technical Manual, 2001, Affymetrix).
Sample_hyb_protocol	Following fragmentation, 19 ug of cRNA were hybridized for 16 hr at 45C on GeneChip®Mouse Genome 430 2.0 Array. GeneChip® Arrays were washed and stained in the Affymetrix Fluidics Station 450.
Sample_scan_protocol	GeneChips® Arrays were scanned using the GeneChip® Scanner 3000 7G.
Sample_data_processing	The data were analyzed under the R/Bioconductor environment (http://cran.at.r-project.org) with MBEI (PM only) of package affy.
